FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tassel Ridge Winery Releases First Wine of the 2010 Harvest – 2010 Iowa Nouveau

Leighton, IA (November 11, 2010) – Tassel Ridge Winery will release the first wine of the 2010 harvest, 2010 Iowa Nouveau, on Friday, November 19, at the winery in Leighton.

Made from grapes harvested in the winery’s Mahaska County vineyards in early September, fermented for 19 days, and bottled in early November, 2010 Iowa Nouveau is a light, fruity red wine.

“This wine undergoes the unique process of carbonic maceration also known as whole berry fermentation,” explains Tassel Ridge Winemaker, Rhonda Taylor. “This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the berry without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins.” Made from a blend of Marechal Foch and St. Croix grapes, this light, fruity red wine can be enjoyed at holiday gatherings and with holiday meals.

Steve Richardson, Certified Wine Educator and Tassel Ridge Vineyard Manager, adds “Tassel Ridge 2010 Iowa Nouveau is a great accompaniment to Thanksgiving dinner or simple dishes like burgers, vegetable soup, or meat loaf.”

Tassel Ridge 2010 Iowa Nouveau is made in the style of the French Nouveau Beaujolais. In France, the Nouveau Beaujolais is officially released on the third Thursday of November, and there is a race to get the first bottles to the restaurants and markets. In many restaurants, the wine is poured directly from the barrels it is delivered in and served with sausages. Nouveau Beaujolais is popular in the U.S. because it is about as close to white wine as a red wine can get. Without the phenolic compounds, particularly the astringent tannins, found in red wine, Nouveau Beaujolais is an easy-to-drink, fruity wine which tastes better chilled. It makes a great transitional wine for anyone wanting to move from white to red wines.

Continuing the French tradition, Tassel Ridge 2010 Iowa Nouveau will be available at select retailers on Thursday, November 18. Visit Tassel Ridge Winery on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 19, 20, and 21 to taste the 2010 Iowa Nouveau, and on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. grilled brats will be available for $2 each (while supplies last) to pair with the wine.

Like Nouveau Beaujolais which is intended for immediate drinking, Tassel Ridge 2010 Iowa Nouveau is best consumed within six months of bottling. Serve it slightly chilled and store at 55°F.
